Since Nobel Laureate Elie Metchnikoff identified that consuming healthy microorganisms could be beneficial to the health, probiotics have become one of the natural remedies to improve many conditions. There are vast varieties of flora present in our gut, and they are harmless, and provide many important nutrients, neurochemicals and vitamins. Normally we have enough of them, however in some conditions, such as diarrhea or prolonged use of antibiotics, they are destroyed or reduced and replaced by more harmful organisms. This leads to poor health and medical conditions. It is important to maintain a normal balance in these situations which can be done by taking probiotic supplements.
Please see my video on probiotics to get more information on this topic. You can also view my presentation here.
Studies have shown that there are many types of probiotics available. Please note that some type of probiotics help one condition and may harm the other. You have to be careful to choose the right kind and proper medical guidance will help you to choose the best one for your situation.
We, at BrainMindBody lab, are studying different type of probiotics and will be able to guide you to choose the right one for your situation in near future.
